Who: Liza Kelley Sperry, Owner/Creator for Sperry General Store @sperrygeneralstore and Founder/Design Director at Talley-O Design @talleyodesign

What I do: I’m a designer and illustrator creating vintage-style travel posters, prints and postcards inspired by Art Deco — specifically the Swiss posters from the 1930s. I also co-own a branding and graphic design firm.

I love Maine because: It is where I grew up. The memories instilled in me from roaming around 500 acres of family owned land in the Borestone mountain region are deep. I love the natural beauty, the authenticity, and the hard-working grit of the people here.

What it’s like being a business owner these days: Busy! Despite the pandemic, it has been an insanely busy year for both business’. I love the thrill of exciting new projects, but finding the work/life balance can be challenging. The way we work remotely through the pandemic hasn’t changed but our ability to work more efficiently with our clients has (hello zoom!). It’s a juggle with 2 small children, finding childcare etc. But totally worth the independence!
